Why are fog lights yellow? Does it really help to have them yellow? Does it matter where yoyr driving?

Does this change between the countryside and the city?

Fog lights that are yellow tend to be better because they %26quot;cut through the fog%26quot; as some call it.

White lights tend to reflect off of fog, and thus isn't very efficient in the fog.

Try putting yellow glasses on and see the difference vs. clear glasses.

the location of the lights is really what makes them %26quot;fog lights%26quot;. The yellow coloring might help slightly due to the fact that yellow light doesn't tend to diffract as much against the mist, but its the trajectory which makes them effective. The light would also reflect better off the lines in the middle of the road (obviously more lines in the city than the countryside).

The only difference between countryside and city driving would be that the density of the fog would be greater in the countryside as opposed to the city (greater amount of moisture).
Yellow is the most difficuly color for the human brain/eye to process - that is why it %26quot;stands out%26quot; more to us. Hence, the choice of markers and sticky notes everywhere.
